Just in case you missed it.....

Wes Morgan to the rescue again with a note to the Forum; Knoxville Metro Pulse writer Jack Neely has just published has just published his third collection of articles written for that paper in From the Shadow Side, and Other Stories of Knoxville, Tennessee. About these three book, Wes says:

In the introduction, Neely recognizes Knoxville as a "city constructed on no known paradigm" (sound familiar?). The chapter titled "The Bottom of the River" begins with a lengthy quote from Suttree as well. There is a chapter on the Roxy Theater (spelled "Roxie" in Suttree with good recollections of "Webfoot Watts."

Compared to his earlier books, Knoxville's Secret History (1995) and Secret History II: Stories About Knoxville, Tennessee (1998) the stories selected for From the Shadow Side seem to have more depth and to be of more general interest. At least that is my impression. All should be required reading for those attempting to understand the place that was the setting for Suttree and and much of The Orchard Keeper, and the scruffy little city where McCarthy spent his formative years.

Wes does not mention one other book of Neely's: The Marble City: A Photographic Tour of Knoxville's Graveyards.

As Wes notes, all these books are available on Amazon.com; I've added links above for your convenience.
